The Centralized eVŠ Portal
All applications for higher education in Slovenia, including undergraduate and postgraduate programs, are processed through a centralized national platform known as the eVŠ portal. This system is used by both public universities (Ljubljana, Maribor, Primorska, Nova Gorica) and private institutions.
Candidates must submit their application electronically. The portal allows applicants to create a profile using a username and password or a digital certificate (such as SI-PASS). Most international students use the username and password option. Official communications, including requests for missing documents and admission decisions, are typically delivered via the portal or the email address provided during registration.

Application Deadlines 2025/2026
Deadlines for the 2025/2026 academic year vary depending on the applicant’s nationality and the level of study. For undergraduate (Bachelor’s) programs, the timeline is generally as follows:
- First Application Round: February 18 to March 18, 2025. This is the primary window for all international applicants.
- Second Application Round: August 20 to August 27, 2025. This round is only available for programs that still have vacant spots after the first round.
- Third Round (Special Cases): September 24 to September 25, 2025. This very short window is typically restricted to specific programs with remaining availability.
For Master’s and Doctoral programs, deadlines are set by individual faculties and usually fall between March and June. Prospective students are advised to check specific faculty websites for exact dates.

Required Documentation
Applicants must upload scanned copies of their original documents to the eVŠ portal. Hard copies are only required if specifically requested by the university's admission office. Standard requirements include:
- Identity Document: A valid passport (for non-EU citizens) or a national ID card (for EU citizens).
- Academic Credentials: Final secondary school certificate (for Bachelor’s) or a higher education diploma (for Master’s/PhD).
- Transcripts: Records of grades for the final two years of secondary school.
- Language Proficiency: Proof of language skills (B2 level) in Slovene or English, depending on the language of instruction.
- Educational CV: A short chronological description of the applicant's previous education, signed by the applicant.
Note: Documents not issued in Slovene or English usually require a certified translation. Certain countries may also require an Apostille stamp on original educational documents.
Recognition of Foreign Education
In Slovenia, the process of recognizing foreign education (nostrifikacija) for the purpose of further study is integrated into the application process. When you apply for a program via the eVŠ portal, you are simultaneously applying for the recognition of your foreign credentials.
The university's authorized person reviews the submitted documents to determine if the foreign education is equivalent to the Slovenian system. There is no separate fee for this recognition when it is part of a study application. However, a small administrative contribution or study contribution fee is usually charged upon enrollment, which is approximately 32.90 EUR ($34.55 USD, Jan 2026).

Tuition and Administrative Fees
Slovenia offers a unique tuition system based on nationality and bilateral agreements:
- EU Citizens: Full-time undergraduate and most Master’s programs are tuition-free at public universities.
- Bilateral Agreements: Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia generally do not pay tuition for full-time studies due to specific state agreements.
- Non-EU Citizens: Tuition is mandatory for most programs, typically ranging from 2,000 EUR ($2,100 USD, Jan 2026) to 15,000 EUR ($15,750 USD, Jan 2026) per year depending on the field of study.
Failure to submit all requested documentation within the specified 5-day correction period after a notification can lead to the rejection of the application.
